ABOUT THE CENTER

A natural history museum
built on the savanna

The Mara Natural History Center stands inside Kenya’s Maasai Mara ecosystem. From the making of the earth and the threads of life, to the coexistence of lions, elephants and the Maasai, to today’s scars and the work of healing them — we hope every visitor will come to understand this land before stepping out onto it.

16 exhibition panels across six galleries
8.6m our longest panoramic wall, “Climate & Habitats”
16 years our founder has spent living among lions
PERMANENT EXHIBITION

Threads of Life: Evolution, Coexistence and the Future of the Maasai Mara

A circular route from the entrance hall: the scar of the earth and the origins of life; climate and habitats; how species live together and feed on one another; the wounds people have left, the healing now under way, and the future we share.
